INTERNET PENETRATION AND GAMING INDUSTRY IN INDIA

India is the second largest gaming industry behind China with over 460 million internet users. There will be about 635.8 million internet users in India with  323 million people in India accessed the internet through their mobile phones in 2016, which corresponds to about 24.3 % of the country’s population. The forecast is estimated to increase about 524.5 million contributing  37.4 percent respectively in 2021 in India

As of 2016, India had an estimate of 262 million mobile internet users living in urban communities, and 109 million living in rural areas. Facebook is the most popular social networking site in the country. There were about 195 million facebook Users in India as of  2016, placing India as the only country with the largest Facebook user base in the world. Retail E-Commerce sales in India powered through mobile amounted to about 16 billion U.S. dollars that year and are projected to surpass 45 billion U.S. dollars in 2021

Indian gaming industry

In 2016, Indian marked their spot among the global leaders in the gaming Industry. In Q2 2016, India ranked fifth globally by game downloads at 1.6 billion and expected to reach 5.3 billion in 2020. It is expected to surpass both Russia and Brazil in the coming years. Google Play generating 13 times more downloads compared to iOS. In Q2 2016, over 300 million games were downloaded on iOS and Google Play combined in India.
The Indian gaming industry is worth $200 million. Around $70 million are real money gaming and the remaining $130 million is casual gaming. According to App Annie and NASSCOM, game revenue is expected to grow at a CAGR of 87 percent to reach as high as $1.1 billion by 2020.

These stats clearly indicate that the growth of Indian gaming industry is going to skyrocket in the upcoming years as there are more areas to explore according to experts. The reason behind this increase is due to many factors such as:

•    Free Downloads

All the games that are played in mobile or tablets are mostly free of cost downloads.  Games such as Temple Run, Subway surfers, angry birds and the latest Super Mario Run was also a major hit because of free Downloads and game is more of a casual gaming rather than a Real money gaming.

•    Zero Monetisation

The major reason for Indian gaming industry for becoming a strong Global market leader in terms of Downloads and revenues is that we haven't started focusing in in-app purchasing, in-app advertising, incentive advertising, and subscription service. Indian games such as Gully Cricket, Real Cricket 16, Best bus 3D gaming are few games which were built with no in-app features but still made their mark being popular downloads among Indian game lovers.


•    Numerous offers from Internet Service providers

Internet service provider companies are already boosting their majority of revenues in the mobility division of their companies by attracting the customers with multiple Internet package offers. As we already know Jio, a Mukesh Ambani Enterprise in Telecommunications have already become a strong competitor for all other Companies in this sector by having introduced the unlimited Usage offer till March 31st in voice and data streams for all their customers.Similarly, all companies are competing strongly in providing the best offers in data Usage to attract more customers every day and this in return is increasing the usage of mobile Internet all over India. These offers from Internet service providers is  also another reason for the increase of mobile gaming platforms to hit the roof in the year 2017.
